The New York Public Library (NYPL) seeks an Office Aide to provide quality customer service to library users. This 35-hour-per-week position, scheduled during public service hours, is based in the Riverside Library.
Responsibilities
The Office Aide, reporting to the Library Manager, works as part of a team to provide public service and assist with outreach activities. Key duties include:
- Providing assistance to patrons on the use of computers and technology
- Preparing print and non-print library materials for circulation, involving some data entry
- Processing patron applications, including data entry and filing
- Inspecting and sorting print and non-print materials
- Assisting with creating and carrying out improvements to staff procedures and user experience
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Proficiency with Envisionware and Sierra preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer services, including online searching and library resources preferred
- Public service experience with the ability to work well with diverse patrons
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Attention to detail and strong organization and planning skills
- Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google applications, PCs, Macs, and e-reader devices
